Restore the Show Desktop icon in Quick Launch toolbar:

Create a Desktop.scf file (use Notepad) in: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Quick Launch\
Text in the Desktop.scf file:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=Explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
